THE STORY OF CHOK SAGAMI

Hailing from two famous fight gyms, Eminentair in Bangkok and Tiger Muay Thai in Phuket, Kru Chok (Chokh) Sagami (A.K.A Chok Eminentair) started his Muay Thai career at the tender age of 8 years old.

LIFE IN UBON RATCHATHANI

Kru Chok was born in Ubon Rathchathani, where he would spend his childhood days running through fields and swimming in rivers. Coming from a poor family, Kru Chok would often miss school to head to the Buddhist temple for food, as the family only had enough for one meal a day. By the age of eight, Kru Chok's father sent him to start training  Muay Thai and start prizefighting. Prizefighting has historically been a path for many from impoverished backgrounds, to seek better opportunities out of poverty.

Fighters, like Kru Chok, are often sent by their families at a very early age to camps to train to prizefight, and earn money to support their families. Upon finishing primary school, he was sent to the Eminentair camp in Bangkok to start training and fighting in the bigger promotions, such as those in the famous Lumpinee, Rajadamnern, TV7 and Omnoi stadiums.

CHAMPIONSHIPS IN BANGKOK

By the time he was seventeen, Kru Chok was a popular household name in Muay Thai. He was sought after by promoters to fight in the biggest promotions. Lumpinee, Rajadamnern, Omnoi and TV7 stadiums were his frequent haunts. Fighting once every three weeks, training was furious and constant, breaks were far and few. As each fight was worth seventy-five thousand baht, which, in context, could down pay for a house in those days, Kru Chok was not allowed out of his trainer's sight, even to the extent of being escorted during meals to ensure he remained in top fighting shape.
